Hey everyone, I’m excited to be able to say that I will be participating in the April session of Camp Nano, and I plan to take you guys along for the ride with a blog series! For those that don’t know, NaNoWriMo is generally during November (aka, National Writing Month) and it is an event in which writers around the world attempt to create 50,000 word novels in thirty days! Perhaps not as well known, however, is Camp Nano, which takes place during April and July. During Camp, writers are able to pick their own word goal (anywhere between 10,000 to 1,000,000 words), but this year the Nano team is taking it farther. Writers can now measure their progress through words, lines, pages and even hours (for those who are using the month to edit completed first drafts). Although, perhaps the most exciting part of every camp is being “sorted” into a cabin of other writers where you can share the ups and downs of writer-life!
For my camp project, I will be focusing on my LGBT/Paranormal YA, Saving Grace, with a goal of about 10,000 words (which I will increase if starts to become too easy). I am in a lovely cabin of chatty, LGBT friendly folks and I am excited to spend the month talking to them, and all of you, about my writing!
So what should you expect from this series?
The series will be a weekly, with every Tuesday being an update about where my writing is at and a summary about how the last week went. For my fellow writers I hope to share what is working with me and a few tips and tricks along the way. For readers, I hope to give you insight into the life of a writer (that isn’t so solitary) and just what happens behind the scenes (and how weird working on a deadline can get).
Some potential ideas that you will see in blog posts through this month include:
- General Hilarity – be prepared for some goofy moments
- Stories from a pantser (I don’t use extensive outlines)
- Ramblings and rants about characters as if they are real people
- Balancing college and nano, yay!
- Dealing with writer’s block
- Music! Word counters! Sprints! What is helping get words in?
So stay tuned for hilarity and writerly fun in “Blue’s Camp Adventure” this April!
First post will be up on 4/4 at 8 am central time
